Space Templates & Copy for Confluence
Start new spaces from your own template spaces or copy a whole space, with attachments, restrictions and placeholders filled in.
Copy a whole space or start a new one from a template space: every page tree with attachments, labels and restrictions, folders included, and {{placeholders}} filled with your values. Runs entirely on Atlassian.
What it does
- A template gallery: the spaces labelled template
- Copy into a new space or an existing one
- Page trees with attachments, labels and restrictions
- Folders and root pages recreated
- {{Placeholders}} in titles and text filled in
- Optional title prefix; titles that are taken get a number
- Progress step by step, and Confluence's own reason when something is refused
Where it appears
- Apps > Space templates and copy, in the Confluence top navigation.
- Space settings > Copy this space, with that space already chosen.
How to use it
- Open Apps > Space templates and copy.
- Pick a template, or any space, to start from. Mark a space as a template to show it in the gallery.
- Choose a new space (name and key) or an existing one, and the options.
- Fill in the placeholders found in the template, choose Copy the space, and keep the page open until it finishes.
- Open the new space from the result.
Permissions
The app runs on Atlassian’s Forge platform and declares no permission to contact outside servers. It asks for these scopes:
| Scope | Why |
|---|---|
| read:space:confluence | List spaces and templates, and find the homepage of the source and target space. |
| read:page:confluence | Read the pages of the template, for its placeholders and root pages. |
| write:page:confluence | Fill in placeholders on the copied pages. |
| read:hierarchical-content:confluence | Read the page tree of the template, folders included. |
| write:folder:confluence | Recreate the template's folders in the target space. |
| write:confluence-content | Copy pages and page trees with Confluence's own copy operations. |
| read:confluence-space.summary | Follow the progress of a page tree copy. |
| write:confluence-space | Create the new space, and add or remove the template label of a space. |
Data and privacy
- What the app stores
- Nothing.
- Personal data
- None stored.
- Logs
- None; the app has no backend.
- Where it lives
- Nowhere outside your Atlassian site: the app works in your browser with your own permissions and keeps nothing.
Details for all apps are in the privacy policy.
Good to know
- Blog posts, whiteboards, databases and smart links are not copied; the result lists any that were left out.
- Space permissions, logo and description are not copied; a new space gets Confluence's default space permissions.
- Keep the page open until the copy finishes; page trees already handed to Confluence finish on their own.
Questions
No. The copy runs as the person using it, so Confluence's view, add and create-space permissions apply to every step.
Nothing. It is only read; placeholders are filled in the copy.
Yes. Its homepage gets the template's content, the template's pages are added, and titles that are taken get a number.
