Attachment Housekeeping for Confluence

Find the attachments no page uses, see what takes up storage, and move unused files to the space trash in bulk.

Scan a space for attachments that no page shows, links or mentions. See total size and the largest files, select what to remove and move it to the space trash, where it can be restored. Runs entirely on Atlassian.

What it does

  • Unused, largest and all files, with sizes and versions
  • Bulk move to the trash; restore from the space trash
  • CSV download of the scan

Where it appears

  • Space settings: Attachment cleanup.

How to use it

  1. Open the space, then Space settings, then Attachment cleanup.
  2. Choose a keep period and start the scan.
  3. Review the Unused tab; check the page of any file you are unsure about.
  4. Select files and choose Move to trash. Restore files from the space trash if needed.

Permissions

The app runs on Atlassian’s Forge platform and declares no permission to contact outside servers. It asks for these scopes:

ScopeWhy
read:space:confluenceFind the pages of the space.
read:page:confluenceRead page content to see which files are shown, linked or mentioned.
read:attachment:confluenceList attachments with size, date and versions.
delete:attachment:confluenceMove the files you select to the trash. Confluence checks your edit permission on each page.

Data and privacy

What the app stores
Nothing.
Personal data
None stored. File names and page titles are shown on screen and in the CSV you download.
Logs
None; the app has no backend.
Where it lives
Nowhere outside your Atlassian site: the app works in your browser with your own permissions and keeps nothing.

Details for all apps are in the privacy policy.

Good to know

  • Links from other spaces and from unpublished drafts cannot be seen from a space; check those files before moving them.
  • Up to 3,000 pages per space are scanned in one go.
  • Storage is freed when a space admin empties the space trash in Confluence.

Questions

Can I undo a cleanup?

Yes. Files are moved to the space trash and can be restored there until the trash is emptied.

Does it free storage immediately?

Storage is freed when the trash is emptied, which a space admin does in Confluence.

Why is a file I know is unused not listed?

It is newer than the keep period, mentioned by name on its page, or on a page with a gallery or attachments macro. The All files tab shows the reason for every file.
